John Huffman, born number 8 out of 10 kids, has never been a stranger to hard work. As a child, he tended his family's vegetable garden, mowed the lawn, raked leaves, shoveled snow at home and for the neighbors, and delivered papers on his paper route - so he was always working. At the age of 14, with a shovel and rake stretched across his bicycle's handlebars, he started his first local landscaping business. This business eventually grew into a large Athletic Field Construction Business that spanned 5 states. Naturally, he was often away from home. This was never an issue... until his first child was born.

Just a few months after John's daughter was born, he built the soccer field for Nashville's professional soccer team - the Nashville Metros. While he was in Nashville, a 5-hour drive from home, he got a call from his wife who started gushing about all the things his daughter had done that day. Sitting there in his empty hotel room, he thought of his new wife, and daughter, and all the experiences he was missing by being out of town. He decided there had to be a way for him to stay close to home, even if it meant starting over.

That though sent him back to his college days when he was growing his landscaping business and operating out of a storage unit. He remembered being extremely frustrated at dealing with the poor quality of the facility, the limited access he had to the property, and the ridiculous price increases that would happen every few months.

He said to himself he could do better.

And he has.

Storage has given him a way to provide an essential service that serves the public in times of transition: starting or operating a business, building a home, remodeling, downsizing, etc. Storage also provides for his family, a way to be there for his children's "firsts".
